Day 09 09.26.09 Virginia Beach, VA

Whoooooaaaaa!! Family overload!! We've escaped to the local book store to do some work and just get out for a bit. I love my family sooo much but they drive me bonkers [certain members more than others, of course].

We've had two nice dinners with the folks and went down to the beach to see the sand sculpture competition. There were some groovy ones fo' sho!

There is a 3-D maze near the beach that I'd like to go to called "The Eye", looks pretty neat.

Richard helped my 8 year old niece perfect her bike riding skillz. She can now start, stop, and turn by herself. She's stoked and we're going to go on a bike ride tomorrow.

We've had a little bit of a tense day, being on the road is so many things: exciting, wondrous, amazing, liberating, but also exhausting. Being thrown out of your normal routine and not getting the greatest sleep can wear you down a little bit. Everything is so worth it, however. We're having a awesome time.

After seeing Joel and Sandra in Boone, we headed due north to see Chris and Samantha and their beautiful goats. They live on a small farm 30 minutes out of the city. They made us a small dinner and we got to try some of Samantha's delicious goat cheese!!! Nom nom nom, I never tire of eating it. Soooo good! It was super nice to catch up with them after so many years of sending little messages here there via face/space.

Anywho.... I'm here at the book shop almost out of laptop juice with no outlets in site.

I guess I should start my signature as:

Day 08 - 09.24.09

Hello from Boone, NC.

It's day 08 and we have spent the last couple of days visiting with friends from Orlando that have moved up to NC.

On the 22nd we arrived into Asheville, NC to visit Natalie and Joaquin and the newest edition to their family: 4 month old Prudence. She's a super cute pound puppy destined for great things and a happy life! I would be lying if I said that I didn't want to steal her and bring her on the trip!

Asheville had a great vibe to it. Natalie and Joaquin can see downtown from their porch which is perched on a hill. Their home is filled with curious puzzles and awesome art. It would have been nice to stay longer, but on this particular leg of the trip, we had a couple of deadlines to meet so we hurried on to Boone yesterday [with a bit of a hang over at that]. We met Joel at the local health food store and immediately drove up a small mountain to go on a super nice hike. The hike took all of 15 minutes of awesome rock [or boulder, rather] hopping with a huge pay off of an awesome waterfall at the top. A perfect hike, indeed.

Afterward, we went to Appalachain Voices to see the wonderful Miss Sandra D doing her thing. Its funny that so many people from Orlando have made up to ole N. Carolina. It still seems really southern here, but there are all all of these little pockets of progressiveness and activism. It's pretty great and the weather could not be any better. It's slightly brisk all of the time, but you can still go swimming if you get hot from a hike. No stickiness to speak of that is a given in Florida.

I know I promised pictures.... Internet has been hit or miss. They'll come soon. :]

Day 05 09.22.09

2nd day in Cashiers, NC. Unfortunately it has done nothing but rain heavily here and we discovered a leak in the van where the rain was coming through. We oriented the van another direction and that seemed to help, we'll see when we leave Cashiers how the leak is doing.

The Bear Cabin has been really wonderful. We've gotten some work done and just enjoyed being here. It's nestled up in the mountains and we're surrounded by forest. Its extraordinarily peaceful here and the surroundings are a delight. Richard is probably disappointed that we have not yet seen a bear, though with all the rain we have not really had a time to go looking. We have a couple of hours left here before taking off, maybe we'll get lucky.

Our next stop is Asheville, NC to see Natalie [and old friend from Orlando, FL] and poke around for a bit, then on to Boone, NC to see Joel [another friend from Orlando], hopefully Sandra Diaz [another friend from Orlando], and then to Raliegh to see Chris and Sam [still yet, more friends from Florida] if they aren't too busy with their life's goings-ons.

Pictures soon!

Day 01 09.18.09

Heyo!

Welcome to our blog! This is what we will use to keep track of our travels, where we go, what we do and who we see!

So, this is technically day 02, however there was not time to blog yesterday. We had a pleasant drive up to Atlanta [even though it somehow took us 9 hours instead of 7, we're starting to see a pattern here!] with just a hiccup of minor car troubles that we got taken care of in the morning. Richard got a good amount of work done while I drove for the first half of the trip and I got to test out the air mattress in the back of the van when it was Richard's turn to drive. It was not half bad to take a snooze back there!

Driving through Atlanta is pretty cool. In comparison with Orlando, the architecture is pretty cool for the most part. The interstate was surprisingly free of traffic despite us driving through around 6pm.

We got in on Aunt Pat's bday unbeknownst to us, but it worked out well because all of her and Bill's children we're here to both greet us and celebrate the recent birthdays! Sara, Ally, and Zach were here, as well as Jesse and Mary. We had a lovely dinner and some yummy cheesecake to celebrate Pat, Mary, and Richard's birthday!

We went to 3 different places today to find a digital camera that would have performance and a nice price on it. Along the way we met Hunter who worked in the Wal-mart photo dept. He was very informative and let me know about awesome cameras that they didn't even sell in the store. What a cool kid. I ended up buying a cheapy Nikon point and shoot camera for around a $100. I plan to get a DSLR asap to shoot with as soon as p0ssible, but I think I can find a better deal on teh internets. Im going to work something out.

Alright! Day 01 and Day 02 are going well! See ya next time!
